Exodus 30:17-21.
THE ORDINANCE FOR THE LAVER.
A huge washing bowl placed between the Altar and the entrance to the Tabernacle. Made of bronze from the mirrors of the women (Ex.38:8). The dimensions are not clear but we can get an idea of its size from the sea that Solomon constructed for the Temple-2 Chron.4:2-5.
The purpose for the Laver - For the priests to wash their hands and feet before going to minister to the Lord.
The water in the Laver represents the pure water of the Word that cleanses-Heb.10:22. Jesus told His disciples, 'You are clean through the Word....' John 15:3. Cleansing before ministering to the Lord, 'Lest you die'.
Following the sacrifice on the Altar (Cross), the redeemed person needs the cleansing in his life from the daily defilement of the world-Rom.12:1. God made us Kings and Priests through Christ's sacrifice-Rev.5:9-10. Kings rule and Priests minister. Ministry to the Lord stems from a cleansed heart and life.
Hands-Represent relationships.
Feet-Represent our walk before God.
If the body got filthy, that would be sin. Therefore, the need to cleanse the hands and feet. The Priests had to sacrifice and serve God in the Tabernacle daily. As they washed their hands and their feet in the water they could see their reflection-the effect of cleansing.
The two fold Cleansing:
Pure hands-Ps.24:3-4.
Feet that walk-Eph.4:1.
