2 Sam.9:13.
Mephibosheth-A picture of the Redeemed by the blood of Christ. He did not deserve the love and grace of David. Contrast Saul's attack on David and David's attitude as king.
David could easily have killed Mephibosheth, He was not  jealous-a type of Christ. Mephibosheth
did nothing to deserve the kindness of the king.
We did not deserve God's grace, but he died for us-Rom.5:6. He was in Lodebar, not in Jerusalem- the place of peace. He was away from the king , with no reconciliation.
Away from Jesus Christ-no peace, no reconciliation-Is.48:22.
Lodebar-barren,unfruitful,no pasture-like the Prodigal son. Those who have no time for Christ live in Lodebar.
Mephibosheth-a thing of shame-those who live without Christ,Is.64:6. Mephibosheth was a thing of shame because of a fall-2 Sam4:4. We cannot walk with God because we are fallen, Acts 14:8.
Mephibosheth fell on hia face, paid reverence to the king. He realized that his life was in David's hands. This is our position also. There is no other Saviour.
When God spoke to Saul of Tarsus, he said, 'Lord what will you....' Acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour. When we realize our own unworthiness, then His power is manifested toward us.
Mephibosheth may have been afraid of David's authority, but David encouraged him. 'I will surely
show kindness for Jonathan's sake' not for Mephibosheth's sake, not because he was lame or worthy,
but because of someone's else's sake-1 John2:12. Why? because He loved us. David loved Jonathan.
The sad end end of the story and Mephibosheth's ingrattitude-2 Sam19:24-26. A reminder of our own
failure and ingrattitude many a time.
